At its core, ACAPcommunity is an educational 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that offers information, resources, support and community for those of us who are caring for aging parents. Through local chapters, monthly programs are offered that address issues related to aging, family dynamics and adult-child caregiving. Presenters are experts on the topic they address, and many are or have been caregivers for their own parents and/or in-laws.
ACAPcommunity currently offers the following opportunities for information, resources, support and community. You will learn more about each of these programs on this website. If you’d like additional information, though, please let us know!
ACAPcommunity also offers a podcast, conversational interviews with experts who help us consider new approaches to caregiving and taking care of oneself. Often, the podcast interviewee is a recent ACAP speaker. Podcasts are recorded almost every month. You may listen to these excellent podcasts through this website as well as iTunes and The Mesh.tv. ACAP Chapter Educational Programs
Monthly educational programs are the core of ACAP, providing a base from which participants receive important information and resources within an environment of support and community. At monthly ACAP chapter meetings, an area expert, well-known and well-respected in his or her field, presents an educational program on one of the myriad issues regarding aging, family dynamics or adult-child caregiving. Take a look at the activities taking place at the various ACAP chapters by clicking this link.
ACAPcommunity’s Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic
ACAPcommunity and our chapters wish to continue to provide education, resources and support during the COVID-19 pandemic. Because our guest speakers, ACAPcommunity volunteers and meeting attendees tend to be caregivers for our most vulnerable population—aging loved ones— we have been providing our monthly programs virtually, and will continue to do so for the indefinite future.
Below is the list of the upcoming monthly programs which will be hosted by various chapters. Be sure to check out Chapter websites and Facebook pages for additional details and information on how to register for each event as we get closer to the date.
In November of 2019, ACAPcommunity plans to sponsoring a one-day conference in Hickory, NC. With an outstanding keynote, excellent lunch speaker and six educational programs, by the end of the day, participants will better understand the scope and impact of adult-child caregiving and the Silver Tsunami, learn strategies for better caring for aging parents and themselves, have the opportunity to develop a support network, and gain encouragement for planning for their own aging. The conference is in partnership with the Northwest (NC) Area Health Education Center of Wake Forest School of Medicine and a part of the North Carolina AHEC Program.
